Alga norte dog park

Alga Norte is a small community (pop: 16,000) located 20 km from the city of Maceió, capital of the state of Alagoas, in the north of Brazil. The community's name was established by a group of Portuguese and French slors as a tribute to Portuguese slors who sled into the area in the early 16th century. However, they never found the mouth of the Araruama river, which the name is derived from. The place was originally a farming and cattle ranch. After the gold mines of Serra Pelada were opened in the 1960s, Alga Norte became famous in Brazil as a centre of heavy industry. The local football (soccer) club has an annual income of over 20 million res (about 4 million US dollars). The city is considered one of the richest and most developed of the Alagoas state.

Alga Norte has an estimated population of 40,000 people. It is the most important city of the Alagoas region, which has a population of around 2 million people.

CEMAD is the local public school and has two campuses in the city:

Largo das Palmas - (school site 1) and

Rua da República - (school site 2)

Both campuses have schools up to 11th grade, and are also used by high schools. There are also private schools like:

Escola Pópula

Colégio BPS

Colégio Santo Antônio

Colégio São Sebastião
