Deer dogs for sale, and in fact all types of hunting dogs, will be on the auction block Dec. 1. You are invited to attend the event and bid on some of the great hunting dogs up for sale. The public can purchase from the auctioneer and the winners will be called for the public to inspect. It is for sale to the highest bidder, no Reserve. They are in excellent health, ready to go to the field. Call me if you are interested.

The "Olympic Games" started here Saturday, with the first preliminary matches of the curling and ice hockey games to follow.

There will be more games and more teams competing in these outdoor events, from this event to the biathlon world championships in Sweden. The "Winter Olympics" in 2002 will be in Salt Lake City, Utah.

There will also be many sporting events held here in the coming weeks including a junior high football game between the local teams, and a junior high basketball game.

The ice hockey games begin at 6 p.m. tonight, with the curling games starting about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The ice rink is located behind the Community Center at the edge of the new "K" Highway (SR 16, formerly old US 89) and will be open to the public during the games.

If you can't make it out to see the games, there will be a viewing party at the Community Center at 4 p.m. today for the hockey and then again at 6:30 p.m. today for the curling.

"The local junior high teams, the "North Country Wolverines" and the "Cortland Tigers," will be playing each other for the right to represent the county in the "State Tournaments."

"Ice hockey has taken off with the junior high players, and the curling is growing fast too, with many more people participating," said Kathy Anderson, community development director for the county.

She added, "We hope you can make it to some of these events, and if not, then be sure to tune in to them from your television and computer screens. There will also be a big screen television set-up, with some speakers and music.

"We are asking local radio stations to donate their air time for these activities. Local radio stations, radio and television stations or the local school will do, and they will be broadcasting the games live, too. We are asking all to donate some money to the local junior high, in appreciation for their services."

All the proceeds of the event will go to the CNY United Way.

If you'd like to contribute, they have an online button on their home page. If you'd like to get an email reminder for the hockey games or to make a donation for the curling, click on the links provided.
