Building a dog bathtub saves your home tub or shower from dirt and hair. Building a simple outdoor tub also prevents the need for building code research and homeowner association approval.
Step 1
Turn the plastic tub upside down and place it on the ground. Place the drain on the center of the tub floor. Use a white marker to trace the inner edge of the drain. Do not trace the outer lip because it must sit flush against the tub. Cut the hole out with a utility knife.
Step 2
Turn the tub right side up. Cover the lip of the drain with rubber cement and set it against the hole to create the permanent drain. Press the drain lip against the tub with firm hand pressure for one minute while the cement dries.
Step 3
Choose a level location for the tub near a hose outlet. Build a base by setting cinder blocks on the ground. Match the bottom dimensions of the tub with the blocks and leave a gap in the center for the drain hole.
Step 4
Close the tub drain, lift the dog into the tub and proceed with the bath.
Use a mild baby shampoo or specialty dog soap for bathing. Biodegradable soaps are ideal because they will not damage grass and plants when the tub drains.
